Oceanfast began in 1983 by businessmen Don Johnston and John Farrell, based out of Western Australia. The Australian superyacht manufacturer is owned by Austal, Limited, a publicly listed company on the Australian Stock Exchange. In May 1999, Austal acquired Oceanfast, which then made a range of vessels including, small ferries and luxury motor yachts. Oceanfast had a reputation for quality of design and finish but was undercapitalized.
Today, Austal (parent company of Oceanfast) is a global shipbuilder and defense prime contractor, a recognized world leader in the design and construction of customized commercial and defense vessels. The company has designed and manufactured over 255 vessels for over 100 operators in 44 countries.
