Grady White is a company known for brand loyalty among its owners, many of them working their way up through the line as families grow and needs change accordingly. At the point when a rugged, seaworthy, true offshore vessel is required, without the need for a full grown cabin style model, the Canyon 306 is a serious choice. Billed as a "Beast" of a boat, this model definitely lives up to that claim. Standing at the helm of the Canyon 306 leaves the impression that you're in a much larger boat. This model includes some recent design changes, most notably, a new full-height windshield that wraps around the console stylishly, offering an unobstructed view to the helmsman while keeping you completely protected from the weather.
The Canyon will appeal to the family who likes to fish hard but also requires a few creature comforts for the time between bites. Seating forward is arranged comfortably for six including matching bench seats with new forward facing fold-away bolstered back rests. While comfortable for socializing in the bow, the seating still allows free access to the forward Windlass Anchor compartment for setting anchor or to work a fish around the front of the boat while firmly standing on the deck.
Another comfort item the family will enjoy is a massive console enclosure with plenty of room for the Head, Sink/Shower, and impressive storage capabilities. This is as large a space inside as you'll find on any boat this size and very nicely finished.
From a fishing standpoint the Canyon features a very roomy, uncluttered workspace in the cockpit. For the traditional stern presentation, behind an outrigger spread or bottom fishing, this cockpit is roomy and comfortable with all of the tools required located within a few steps. The rear of the helm station seating features a stand up rigging station/sink with plenty of tackle storage and a 47-gallon live well above the deck. A very large 304-quart insulated fish box is located across the transom behind a fold away bench seat. Additionally, there are two 150-quart insulated boxes beneath the forward seating.
This is an extremely capable thirty-footer that rides and fishes like a much larger boat. She handles smartly in smaller spaces at the dock and will run well into the 50-MPH range with twin Yamaha 350-four strokes. The Model tested sported twin F-300 Yamahas and topped out at 50 MPH. Cruising comfortably in the low 30's, expect a range of 475 miles, which makes overnight trips in the Gulf of Mexico or to the Bahamas easily attainable. (floridasportsman.com)
